SINGLE OF THE DAY – “TEAR IT UP” BY PLEASING FORMS
Pleasing Forms is a solo project by Todd Thomas, from Pittsburgh, whose kaleidoscopic swirls of jangly riffs and pulsating beats, create a dreamy soundscape of neo- psychedelica, garage rock, experimental rock and jangly pop. As an artist, Thomas is ever-evolving and whose timeless music is cut from the same cosmic cloth as artists such as The Byrds, The Kinks, The Doors, Syd Barrett, Spaceman 3, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Flaming Lips. A multi-instrumentalist, Thomas is a versatile musician, a one-man band whose laid-back delivery and thought-provoking lyrics, create a neo-folk narrative that unite and transcend a positive energy. With an album in the pipeline, Thomas has been busy working on new material and whose latest single has been selected as my “Single of the Day”.
Tear It Up is a catchy, sun-drenched track, that sits in the flowerbeds of neo-psychedelica, whilst planting the seeds of art rock. Through the interplay of jangly riffs and compelling lyrics, Tear It Up revives the rainbow reverie reminiscent of the Paisley Underground, whilst taking a radical stance. Along with the free and easy vocals, Tear It Up takes a trip to the tonality of Post-Punk, tilting towards bands such as Television, Felt and Magazine. It’s a great track that goes back to the basics of alternative rock, tearing up the rule book, whilst remaining true to the DIY ethos of punk and post-punk.

Track: Tear It Up From: Tear It Up (Single) Label: Self released Out: Now
OK I am pushing it to say that this August release is ‘new music’, however this brilliant mix of jangly post punk and slight The Doors style psyche needs to be shared to a wider audience! Great stuff from the solo recording project of Pittsburg based, Todd Thomas.
